自己・統治・現代性--フーコーの鏡が反射するもの

Abstract

本稿は, 鏡という形象について, それがミシェル・フーコー(1926-1984)の思想のなかで持っ意味を明らかにしたものである. 彼は, その生涯に著した数々の論考において, ことあるごとにこのモチーフに言及している. さらにそれらは, 単なる周縁的な言及というよりも, より彼の思想の本質にかかわる形でなされているように思われる. したがって本稿では, フーコーの諸言説の中で鏡が見せる多様な形象をつぶさに見ていくことによってその本質にせまろうとした. ところで, 一方で鏡は, 西洋の歴史の中で古くからさまざまな意味を付与されてきた, それ自体多義的な存在である. したがって考察のなかでは, こうした鏡自体のもつ多義性とそれがうつしだす彼の思想の多義性とに同時に光を当てることにより, その歴史のなかに｢フーコーの鏡｣を位置づけることを試みた. 以上のような試みを通じてわれわれは最終的に, この形象が彼の統治および現代性をめぐる考察と内在的な連関を持つものであることを明らかにした.

This paper examines the meaning of the figure "mirror" in the thought of Michel Foucault (1926-1984). Foucault often refers this figure through his works, and those references seem to reveal the essence of his thought. In this paper, I investigate the essence by focusing the various figures of mirror in his discourses. In the occidental history, the mirror has been given various meanings. Therefore I try to situate the "Foucault's mirror" in the history by illuminating the correspondence of the polysemy of mirror and that of his thougt. Through these analyses, I clarify that this figure has a close relation to his consideration to the "government" and the "modernity".
