<研究論文>大学生の留学志向と社会的背景 --日中比較を手がかりとして

Abstract

本稿の目的は、大学生の留学志向の実態と特徴及びその社会的背景を、日中比較を通して把握することである。まず、送出される留学生数の増減の背景にある要因として、高等教育機会の需給関係、経済発展等を取り上げ、統計資料を用いてその影響を検討した。さらに、中国の留学生送出し政策について概観し、近年の送出し留学生の急激な増加には、政策の効果が示唆されることを示した。次に、日中の研究型総合大学で実施したアンケート調査を用いて、大学生が留学のメリットをどのように捉えているかについて比較した。(i)留学には研究活動、就職等でメリットがあると考える学生が日中共に8割を超えること、(ii)中国の学生は日本の学生に比べ研究活動や就職に留学経験が役立つと考える者が多いこと、(iii)留学のメリットに対する理解は、個人の留学に向けた行動とは関係なく存在することが明らかになった。以上の結果から、今後の検討課題を述べた。

The purpose of this study is to clarify the attitudes of university students toward study abroad and the social backgrounds of these attitudes. Drawing upon a descriptive analysis of statistical data and Chisquare tests on results of a survey conducted in research universities in Japan and China, this study presents the following findings. 1) In the Chinese case, the increasing number of students sent abroad cannot be fully explained by social and macro-economic growth of the country, therefore it is implied that the policy of the national government have had a fair degree of influence on the increase. 2) More than 80% of students in both countries believe that the study abroad experience should be beneficial to their future. 3) Compared to the Japanese case, more Chinese students believe that the study abroad experience will be beneficial to their future academic life and occupation. 4) In both countries, regardless of whether or not the students have prepared to study abroad, they have the same understanding of its benefit. Implications for further studies are provided.
