抄録: Previous studies have shown that a professional actor assumes the viewpoints of the character he or she plays, the actor himself or herself, and the audience at the same time in acting a play. However, it is not clear whether actors come to assume these multiple viewpoints through experience, or whether they also assume these viewpoints when they are reading a scenario and planning actions. In this study, we examined the extent to which actors assume each of the three viewpoints in reading a scenario and planning actions. One hundred and fifteen actors answered a questionnaire. They were divided into three groups (junior expert, intermediate, and novice actors) according to their length of acting experience. The results suggest that in reading a scenario, a gender difference may exist in whether they can assume the viewpoint of a character of opposite gender. Furthermore, junior expert actors may assume the viewpoints of a character of opposite gender to more extent than novice and intermediate actors. In planning actions, all actors can assume the viewpoint of the character and think about the character from the viewpoint of the actor, but novice actors cannot think about the entire play from the viewpoint of the actor or assume the viewpoint of the audience.
