古アイスランド語『詩のエッダ』の⼩辞ofについて

Abstract

本稿の⽬的は、古アイスランド語における⼩辞ofの機能を再検討することである。最古期のゲルマン語では、接頭辞ge-が完了相の指標として機能していた。接頭辞ge-の機能が衰退した結果、後代の⾔語では、助動詞を⽤いる現在完了形が発達した。他⽅、⽂献時代以前に接頭辞ge-が衰退したアイスランド語では、⼩辞ofが完了を表したと考えられている。しかしながら、従来の研究では、⼩辞ofの機能について研究者の間で意⾒が対⽴しており、⼩辞ofの機能については再検討の余地がある。本稿では、古アイスランド語⽂献『詩のエッダ』の実例に基づいて⼩辞ofの機能を分析し、⼩辞ofが、助動詞を⽤いる現在完了形ほど明確な完了表現の形式ではなかったことを指摘する。

The aim of this study is to reexamine the function of the Old Icelandic particle “of”. In the oldest Germanic languages, the prefix “ge-” was used to express “perfect” or “perfective” meanings. Because of the functional loss of “ge-”, later languages have developed the present perfect construction using auxiliary verbs instead. On the other hand, in Old Icelandic, which no longer used the “ge-” prefix, the particle “of” is regarded as a significant marker of perfectivity. That being said, there is room for reexamination of the function of the particle “of” as there are conflicting opinions among researchers. This paper analyzes the function of the particle “of” based on examples from the Poetic Edda. This survey shows that the particle “of” did not express the perfective meaning so clearly.
