Abstract: In the present paper, the author attempted to investigate the vital staining pictures of the spleen and liver of rats, which had been used for the previous study. The results obtained were as follows : (1) The weight of spleen increased fol l owing the estrogen administration and orchidectomy, but decreased in the case of the cortisone administration. The weight of liver increased follwing the estrogen administration, while no change was observed in the case of the orchidectomy and cortisone administration. (2) Histological changes of t he spleen : following the estrogen administration and orchidectomy in the early stage, vitally stained cells in the red pulp moderately increased, while later decreased gradually, and the splenic reticulum and sinuses became to be dilate. In the case of the cortisone administration, vitally stained cells decreased, while the reticulum and sinuses were reduced in size. (3) Histological changes of the l i ver : following the estrogen administration and orchidectomy, Kupffer's stellate cells were markedly increased, and the shrinkage of liver cells and the expansion of hepatic sinusoids were observed. In the case of the cortisone administration, the stellate cells moderately decreased, and the swelling of the liver cells and the closing of hepatic sinusoids were observed. (4) From the above results, it may be concluded that the estrogen administration and orchidectomy resulted in the stimulation of reticulo endothelial cells in the spleen and liver, leading to the mobilization of histiocytes in these organs ; the cortisone administration resulted in a slight mobilization of histiocytes into the prostate .
