The present experimental and clinical studies were intended to clarify the effect of urethane derivatives administered to the status of ischemic hypoxia during the palliative operation of the kidney. An effective result was found to exist with the prolongation of the time interval during which the total renal blood flow was interrupted. Histologically and histochemically, the remarkable changes of the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney were observed following the interruption of total renal blood flow for 80 minutes in the rabbit kidney under 25°C. Also, on the 3rd day after the interruption of the total renal blood flow, a clear difference was demonstrated between the rabbit kidney treated with the intraperitoneal injection of Butyl morpholine urethane (B. M. U., 0.05g/Kg, B. W.) and the one without injection of B. M. U. Clinically, 10 cases of t h e palliative operation of the human kidney were accompanied by the treatment with urethane derivatives. Then, based on the results, the protective effects were investigated in the post.operative renal insufficiency by administrating urethane derivatives in patients performed palliative operation of the kidney. The present investigations showed that th e clinical application of urethane derivatives is easier and safer than other methods.en
