Abstract

For local medical practicians, diagnosis, treatment and prognostic evaluation of so called pyelonephritis frequently seen at our clinic often exhibit serious problems for the basis of their decision. In order to find the way of solution of these problems, chemotherapy was attempted based on the results of isolated urine culture in 24 patients with pyelonephritis of narrow sense. Excluding the cases of acute form, the treatment in chronic cases resulted in unfavorable outcomes only. For this refractory chronic type of pyelonephritis as have been noticed by previons investigators, extensive efforts to find out complications and urological organic disorders, in order to exclude as most of other disorders as possible, must be made along with causal and essential treatment. By this means, cases of pyelonephritis of so called narrow sense will be selected essentially and be lessened in number, which may be criticized to be too conservative but in other sense will be active means in order to establish more definite diagnosis. For these reasons, necessity of serious efforts of urologists on this disease was emphasized.
