dc.description.abstract | Clinical observations were made on male patients with urethritis for three years between July, 1975 and June, 1978. (1) There were 124 patients with urethritis in St. Marianna University Hospital, which occupied 3.0% of all the out-patients and 110 patients with urethritis in Toyoko Hospital, which occupied 2.0%. (2) When urethritis was divided into gonorrheal and non-gonorrheal urethritis, the former occupied 23.1 % (54 patients) and the later 76.9% (180 patients). They are in the ratio 1 : 3.3. But there was a considerable difference in the ratio between the University Hospital (1 : 10.5) and Toyoko Hospital (1 : 1.5). (3) Three-fourths of patients with urethritis were in the twenties and thirties. (4) 70.4% of patients with gonorrheal urethritis and 42.2% of patients with non-gonorrheal urethritis had a definite sexual chance. (5) 71 % of patients with gonorrheal urethritis and 47.4% of patients with non-gonorrheal urethritis had a shorter incubation period than a week. A patient with non-gonorrheal urethritis tended to have a longer incubation period. (6) 172 bacterial strains were isolated from the male patients with urethritis. Neisseria gonorrhoeae was isolated most frequently (50 strains, 29.1%), and followed by Stapkylococcus epidermidis (49 strains, 28.5%), Staphylococcus allrellS (16 strains, 9.3%). (7) Almost all strains were highly sensitive to many antibiotics in disk sensitivity tests. (8) Neisseria gonorrhoeae alone was isolated from two-thirds of the patients with gonorrheal urethritis and mixed infection of gram-positive coccus was seen in one-third of the patients with gonorrheal urethritis. (9) Staphylococcus epidermidis was the commonest organism isolated from the patients with nongonorrheal urethritis. In 42.3% of the patients with non-gonorrheal urethritis, no organism was found on the stained slide and culture. (10) Cultures of mycoplasma were performed In 18 patients with non-gonorrheal urethritis, and T-Strain was isolated from only one patient. | en |
