抄録: | The "sui "(墜)" constituted the front of the Han defence system in its northwestern frontiers. They were a kind of fort, and constructed at various points strategically important as well as at the spots which were vital for the defence of the military colonies and their commissaries. The colonical soldiers and the granary guards were under two separate and distinct commands. The sui which were under the command of chia-ch'u-hou-kuan (甲渠候官) had their serial numbers in order of their locations from south to north with six or seven sui as a unit. The hou (候) headquarters occupied the same barrack with the southernmost sui or were in the same place with it. With regard to the military matters the sui were under the command of the hou, but in administration they were under the jurisdiction of the hou-kuan. |
