抄録: This report is a study on the circulation of the Tang hui-yao, through introduction of some recent studies on this work in China and examination of its fragments quoted in other works. The main points clarified by this report are as follows: 1. Six old manuscripts of the Tang hui-yao are extant in China: three are kept at the Beijing Library, another three at the Shanghai Library. Five of the manuscripts and the following old manuscripts: the one possessed by the Seikado Bunko 静嘉堂文庫 in Tokyo and the two kept at the National Central Library in Taibei, are exactly the same version. The original texts on which these eight copies were based include the one made in the reign of the Emperor Gao-zong 高宗 of the Southern Song, and those circulated in the Ming and early Qing dynasties. 2. In the Northern Song, there were at least two different versions of the Tang hui-yao. One was copied from the author's manuscript. The manuscript was kept in the Shi-guan 史館, and was quoted directly by the Tai-ping yu-lan 『太平御覧』, Tai-ping guang-ji 『太平廣記』 and Zi-zhi tong-jian kao-yi 『資治通鑑考異』, which were compiled in the Northern Song. It seems very probable that the Shi-wu ji-yuan 『事物紀原』 compiled in the Northern Song quoted from this version. The manuscript made in the reign of the Emperor Gao-zong of the Southern Song, and the quotations in the Yu-hai『玉海』 as well as the Yons-le da-dian 『永楽大典』 which were compiled in the Southern Song and the year of 1408 respectively, are also estimated to have come from this version. This version had been extant in good condition up until the early Ming, but from then onward to the end of the Ming considerable pages and words were lost. 3. The other version was engraved by the year of 1046. It was not widely circulated in the Song but probably extant to the early Qing. It may have been used for revising the Tang hui-yao at the latter time, and regarded as the original text of the "Dian" edition 殿版. Besides, it is estimated that it was an excerpt version.
