dc.description.abstractKyoto University Forest in Ashiu, Miyama-cho, Kyoto Prefecture, is known for its well-preserved forest and its unique biogeographical location affected by the climate of the Japan-Sea side. The new flora of Ashiu presented here consists of 801 species, 7 subspecies, 31 varieties, 12 forms, and 3 hybrids in 126 families and includes. scientific names, Japanese names, references to citations in the previous inventories, distributions, and exsiccatae information of the collections taken in Ashiu. According to this floristic study, the phytogeography of Ashiu is characterized by, a) the so-called 'Japan-Sea side type', i.e., the species having their distributions inclined to the Japan-Sea side regions, b) plants with intermediate forms between the 'Japan-Sea side type' and the 'Pacific side type', and c) disjunctly distributed species in Ashiu.en
