レオ・シュトラウスのレジーム論 --哲学と政治社会の関係についての考察--

Abstract

政治哲学者レオ・シュトラウスの提示した論点は数多いが, なかでも, もっとも重要なテーマの一つが披のレジームをめぐる議論である. シュトラウスによれば英語の「レジーム」という言葉の語源はギリシャ語の「ポリテイアJにあるが, このポリテイアとは, 本来いかなる法律よりも一層根本的なものであり, また社会に性格を与える秩序であると同時に, その形態でもあった. 小論の日的は, こうしたレジームという観念がもっ原理の重要性を考察することである. はじめにレジームと社会の関係から, 善き生き方とレジームの関係をみつつ, レジームの起源が人為的力にあることを明らかにする.次に, 善きレジームの形成の問題についてシュトラウスの『国家』解釈を通し明らかにしていく. そして, 最後に, 哲学者がレジームを越えていくという論点を提示し哲学と政治社会の関係はどうあるべきかという問題に一定の結論を提示する.

The political philosopher Leo Strauss makes many points that are under discussion. One of his most impmiant theses concerns the notion of "regime." According to Strauss, "regime" originates from the Greek word politeia. The concept of politeia is more fundamental than any laws and the order, the form, which gives society its character. This paper discusses the importance of the principles related to "regime." It is structured as follows : First, I confirm the important relationship between a way of life and a regime because the definition of "regime" is inherent in the former. Second, I reveal that all regimes originate in human work, regardless of the form of the regime. Third, I examine how the best regime is established on the basis of Strauss's interpretations of Plato's Republic. Finally, I suggest that a philosopher transcends the regime to which he belongs, and conclude with a discussion of what the relationship between philosophy and political society should be.
