タイ文化圏の農耕文化 : ラオス北部の稲作を中心に

Abstract

中国西南部から東南アジア大陸山地部にかけての山間盆地には, かつて盆地連合国家群が存在していた. この地域の社会は, 今日もなお国民国家の国境を超えて, タイ系言語をリンガフランカとしながらも多言語・多民族構造をもった複合文化交流圏としての緩やかなつながりを維持している. 筆者は, これまでにも稲作を中心とした農業にかかわる道具と技術の考察から, ラオス北部と中部以南ではさまざまな相違点があることを指摘してきた1～3)が, 本稿では, この周辺地域の広がりを捉える概念としての「タイ文化圏 Tay Cultural Area」をラオス北部の農耕技術を軸に描き出し, 併せて, 一般には水田農耕民と考えられているタイ系民族の農耕文化が, 多民族社会における文化的・物質的交流によって現在に至ったものである可能性をいくつかの事例から検討してみたい.

There used to be confederacy of chiefdoms in montane basin of the area from south-western China to Northern Mainland Southeast Asia. Tay Cultural Area shall be the notion of multi-ethnic societies in mountain area of Mainland Southeast Asia, especially crossing of Yunnan Province of Southern China, northern part of Laos, Northern Thailand and Shan State of Burma (Myammar) which has an organic linkage system on the linguistic, historical background. This paper focused the agricultural practices in Northern Laos and aimed at elucidating the image of Tay Cultural Area by the interaction of the Tay with their neighbour through their rice production and material culture in rural societies.
