北海道におけるトドマツ, エゾマツの利用と流通の特質

Abstract

(1) 北海道のトドマツ, エゾマツはわが国最高峰の優良資源であるが, それが極めて低い価値の発現にとどまっている。(2) その要因は, [1] 丸太の販売段階から製材品の販売段階に至るまで樹種混椪にする, というあたかも薪炭材やパルプ材の如き扱われ方をしていること, [2] 消費者ニーズに適合した造材寸法になっていないこと, [3] 高級役物が採れる丸太であるのに, 並材として加工されてしまっていること, [4] 製材品を商品として生産するという意識が甚だ低く, 極めて粗雑な製材品を造っていること, 等である。(3) このように木材資源が低価値利用に陥っている状況は, 市場形成が未成熟で閉鎖的な小市場に分断されている国産材の丸太市場一般に広く認められることであり, わが国木材市場における大きな問題である。

Although sagalien fir and yezo-spruce are valuable timber resorces in Japan, they are hardly appreciated as high as they should be. There are four significant factors to be recognized related to this unfortunate fact. 1) The two species are always stacked mixed together during the sales of sawlogs and lumber. 2) The length of these sawlogs are not compatible with the needs of consumers. 3) High grade sawlogs are quite often processed as common grade sawlogs. 4) The sawmill operators are not aware of improving their operation to produce higher quality commodity. The above is generally caused by the domestic log market which is sub-divided into the relatively small and exclusive local markets, that is recognized as a crucial issue for the domestic timber market.
