抄録: Freud insisted that neurosis comes from one's psychic traumas and that the neurotic dissociation should be overcome. However, some of Jungian analysts point out that such a way of thinking had a possibility to escape from the neurotic dissociation, and such an attitude itself thus can be regarded as neurotic. Moreover, they show such a paradoxical idea that psychology can cure neurosis because of its own neurosis. On the other hand, "play" has been understood by decomposing it into its various aspects, but it would be difficult for us to grasp it in its totality. As Henriot points out, when attempting to define "play" in its singular meaning, its self-contradicting nature becomes apparent; we either find it everywhere or we find it nowhere. However, the author argues that it is possible for us to see through to the difficulty of comprehending the meaning of "play" and to its contradictory nature by considering "play" in the light of Jungians' theory of neurosis. This paper proposes the idea of "play" from the viewpoint of Jungians' theory of neurosis by making use of the conception of dialectic and Jungians' idea of "the third".
