制限的関係節の意味論・語用論的研究 --対象を唯一的に指示する定名詞句内の制限的関係節--

Abstract

対象を唯一的に指示する定名詞句は指示機能をもつ. そのような定名詞句に現れる制限的関係節もまた, 何らかの形で指示機能の一端を担うと考えられる. 本論の目的は, 対象を唯一的に指示する定名詞句に現れる制限的関係節が, 指示機能の一端を担うということに関して, 意味論的, 語用論的側面を重視した分析を提示することである. 具体的には, 次のような議論を行う. まず, 河野(2012) に対する反論の形で, 対象を唯一的に指示する定名詞句に現れる制限的関係節の先行詞がNPの要素であることを論じる. 次に, 「発話の量に関する適切さ」および「対象を唯一的に指示する定名詞句に制限的関係節が現れる条件」という概念を用いて, 対象を唯一的に指示する定名詞句に現れる制限的関係節が担う指示機能は, それを含む定名詞句が名詞句全体としてもつ指示機能の, 不可欠な一端であることを明らかにする.

The definite noun phrase which refers uniquely to an object has the referential function. The restrictive relative clause which occurs in such a definite noun phrase also bears some part of the referential function in some way. The aim of this paper is to present a semantic and pragmatic analysis for this fact. To carry out this aim I will provide a detailed discussion in the following way. First, in my counterargument against Kono (2012), I will show that the antecedent of the restrictive relative clause in the definite noun phrase which refers uniquely to an object is an element of NP. Then, by appealing to the concepts of "the suitability about the quantity of an utterance" and "the condition for a restrictive relative clause to occur in the definite noun phrase which refers uniquely to an object", I will demonstrate that the referential function which is borne by this sort of restrictive relative clause is crucial part of the referential function of the definite noun phrase as the entire noun phrase.
