6～70歳代で登ったチベット、ネパールの山々 : 失敗例を中心に

Abstract

60年前の1955年、山岳部の新人だった。暁の星を見ながら米を洗い、薪をくべ煙にむせびながら食事当番をしていた。そんな時、戦前の英国ヒマラヤ遠征隊の報告書を読んで驚いた。「Good morning, Sahib, Hot tea, Sir」と言ってキッチン・ボーイがテントを開け、熱い紅茶を持ってくる。暫らくすると「Sahib, Hot water, Sir」と言ってテントの前に洗面器に並々と注がれたお湯が置かれ、これで顔を洗う。何と優雅な山行だ、こんな山登りもあるのだ。会社勤めを終えたら何としてでもヒマラヤで登山を楽しもうと決意した。(参考資料1)2009年4月・2010年6月・2014年4月開催の雲南懇話会で、海外の山旅で体験した自分の大きな失敗例を中心に体験を紹介する機会があった。本稿では、懇話会で話した失敗例及びその他の事柄を紹介する。なお、それぞれの懇話会毎に主題と関係付けて編集してあるので、記述は時系列的になっていない。ご了承をお願いしたい。

I had three opportunities at The Yunnan Forum to present my own experiences of mountain-climbing in the Himalayas, centering on examples of failures and lessons learned from them. 1. April 19, 2014 Shisha Pangma Central Peak and Mera Peak: mountains in Tibet and Nepal which I climbed in my sixties and seventies: 2. April 18, 2009 My experiences going to and from Chulu Far East Peak. Huge mistakes committed while climbing Manaslu; experiences of nose bleed, everyday diarrhea, drip-feed and frostbite; and also witnessing altitude sickness, roaming at midnight and face swelling. 3. June 19, 2010 My deep impression of the serene aspect of Kawaguchi Ekai (a Japanese monk) Memorial Museum and energetic activity of Pandit. 4.
