越境する梵文写本 --中世のヒマラヤ地域と南アジアにおける物と人の交流の一側面--

Abstract

Among Sanskrit manuscripts transmitted from South Asia to Himalayan Area (and vice versa) around the 11th to the 15th centuries, there are examples which clearly show the fact that they crossed cultural boundaries. In the present paper, we shall trace the cross-cultural exchanges by focusing on such manuscripts mostly preserved in Tibetan Autonomous Region. We can classify these manuscripts into the following categories: Sanskrit texts written on Tibetan papers, Tibetan texts written on Indic palm-leaves or birch barks, Tibetan memos written on margins of Sanskrit manuscripts, Sanskrit-Tibetan bilingual manuscripts, and those who have no specific visual characteristic but whose texts clearly show traces of cross-cultural interchanges (e.g. on the basis of their colophons) . According to this tentative classification, we shall specify particular characteristics of these manuscript dealing with selected examples (including manuscripts involved with Atiśa, gNur Dharma kirti, Vibhūticandra, Yar lung Lo tsā ba, a Ya tse king, and Vanaratna) and overview their historical backgrounds.
