<論説>十九世紀フランス絹工業の発達と世界市場

Abstract

十九世紀フランス産業革命の個性的特質をあきらかにしようとする場合、フランスの伝統的産業であり、かつ産業革命の時期に輸出産業としてめざましい発展をとげた絹工業についての分析を欠かすことはできない。本稿では、フランス絹工業の発展様式を、すぐれて国際経済的諸条件に規定されたものとみる立場から、十九世紀フランス貿易統計を史料として、絹工業(製糸・絹織業) の原料輸入市場および製品輸出市場の地域別構成とその推移を数量的に確定することにもっとも力を注いだ。また、フランス以外の欧米諸国における絹工業の動態や、フランスとそれらの諸国との貿易関係についても概括的ながら検討をくわえ、フランス産業革命にさいして絹工業が担った独自の役割を明確にするとともに、フランス絹工業、とりわけ絹織業が諸外国の絹工業とどのような対抗と依存の関係にたちながら、世界市場における優位を確立し、ついでそれを喪失するにいたったかを考察した。

To illustrate some of the features of the French industrial revolution an attempt must be made to describe the development of silk industry which was par excellence the traditional and export trade in this country. In this case there can be no doubt that this industry was influenced by the conditions of international trade of the time, so I tried to ascertain statistically how much and whence the raw materials were imported and whither the silk manufactures exported. The foreign silk industry was important for the French because of its competition overseas and in this context a glimpse was also cast to the conditions of trade with these countries and to how the French proved triumphant in the international trade and then lost its day before the onslaught of other countries.
