<論説>クィルダルの葬送 : 『モンゴル秘史』に見える一事件について

Abstract

『モンゴル秘史』(Mongγol-un niuča tobča'an)については、今迄多くの研究が様々の角度からなされてきた。その民族学的な面からの考察も行なわれているが、その劈頭に現われる族祖伝承についてのすぐれた研究は特に目につく。しかし、『秘史』の他の部分、即ちより日常的な叙述についての分析は、必ずしも充分とはいえない。小稿は斯様な見地よりする研究に他ならない。ここでは『秘史』の一七五節(巻六) のタイルダルの葬送について考えてみた。マングト部のすぐれた遊牧戦士たる彼は、チンギス汗のオン・カンに対する決戦に参加して共に闘い負傷する。そしてその直後、病身をおして囲猟に参加し、病状が悪化して死亡する。チンギス汗は、その弔いとして、彼の遺骨(屍体ではなく骨) をカルカ河に面した崖の上に置かせた。これは彼の霊を宥和し、再生を待望しての骨格保存の一種である。また崖の上という高みに置いたということは、樹上葬の変形と考えられる。そして河辺を弔いの場としたのは、彼がカルカ河の河辺で行なわれた狩猟の最中に死んだということを記憶する為であった。狩猟中に死ぬということは、蓋し遊牧戦士にとっては、戦死と同じく誇るべき死にざまであったのだ。

The Secret History of the Mongols contains many different parts. In one part found at the beginning is a myth of the Mongols. Many studies have been made about this myth. However, few studies have been done about the part immediately following this myth from an ethnological point of view. Because of this fact, I would like to research this part from such a point of view. In § 175 of the Secret History, there is the description of the funeral for Quyildar, which has hardly been discussed. Quyildar was a nomadic soldier who came to Činggis Qahan's aid during the battle against Ong Quan. Sometime thereafter he died in a hunting accident. Činggis Qahan mourned his death and enshrined his bones (yasun) on the precipice facing the Qalga River. This funeral conducted by Činggis Qahan, suitable for a nomadic cavalier, honoured the glorious achievements of Quyildar, a great nomadic soldier. The rites were conducted according to the manner which was generally found among the peoples in the Siberian forests. The funeral rituals were based on the belief of resurrection; thus the bones were preserved and enshrined on a tree. Therefore the description of this event provides the basis for presuming that the forest peoples had a great influence on man's outlook of the world as presented in the historical narrations of the Secret History.
