<論説>欧陽脩における歴史叙述と慶暦の改革

Abstract

一〇四三年に始まる慶暦の改革に、欧陽脩は、諫官として参画した。その際、かれが指弾してやまなかった当該社会の病弊とは、官僚の事なかれ主義、すなわち「因循」 「苟且」という態度であった。こうした批判の視角は、欧陽脩にかぎらず、改革の推進者たちに共通した認識であり、改革の具体的な処方箋は、かかる認識の上に立って立案された。他方、如上の批判視角は、欧陽脩の『五代史記』の中でも重要な意味をもち、そのことはかれの歴史叙述と慶暦の改革との密接な関連を窺わせる。とすれば、『五代史記』は、欧陽脩の現実社会にたいする課題意識に媒介されて、その解決の方途を理念型として提出したものだといえよう。では、この「苟且」批判の上に立つ『五代史記』の論理構造とは何か。一口に言えば、「分」に応じた、しかも上に行けば行くほど責務を強く意識せねばならぬという階梯的官僚体制の上に、至公＝倫理を要請される君主を戴く国家像である。こうした至公＝倫理というあり方は、官僚の輿論を重視し、それに基づく政策の遂行という意味であるから、この国家像は一種の「皇帝機関説」と称すべき性格をもつ。

As a jianguan 諫官, Ouyang Xiu took part in the Qingli reform having been on since 1043. The social desease against which he had kept struggling was the bureaucratic conservatism : inxun 因循 or gouqie 苟且. Such a point of view was not only of him but the common sense among the reformers, and on which the reform plans had based. On the other hand, so important for Ou'ɜ Wudaishiji 五代史記 is this critical viewpoint that there seems the close relation between his historiography and the Qingli reform. It thus appears that, in his consciousness of the social problems, Wudaishiji was put forward as an ideal for the solution of these problems. Then, what is the ideal? In short, it is a concept of the nation ruled by the hierarchical bureaucracy, in which the higher one climbs, the stronger one must feel the responsibilities of one's position, and over which there is a monarch with a supreme public-minded morality. This concept of the nation should be called "the theory of the emperor as an organ", for such lines as a supreme public-minded morality mean the policy-making based on opinions among the bureaucrats.
