<論説>張載・程頤の宗法論について

Abstract

宋学では経書に記された古の親族制度である宗法を再び実践すべきだとの主張がなされている。従来の研究では、宗法は親族結合の為のイデオロギーとの理解に基づき、宋儒の主張は親族結合をめざしたものと解釈されてきた。しかし本稿では宗法の古義および張載と程頤の宗法論を分析することによって、以下のことを明らかにした。第一点。宗法の古義は結合ではなくタテの秩序に重点があり、張載・程頤の所論もこの古義をふまえたものであること。第二点。宗法の根幹原理である嫡長子一子継承は現実の親族観念とは乖離しているため実現には困難なうえ、かつ親族の広い結合には適してはいないこと。第三点。宗法が以上の性格をもつものにもかかわらず、張載・程頤が宗法を主張した動機は、従来の研究のように社会的地位の流動化する時代への適応のための親族結合の希求といった社会的文脈の中よりは、所与の理想たる古への復帰という思想的文脈の中におくほうがよりよく理解されること。さらに行論中において、従来同一視されることも多かった張載と程頤の宗法論がそれぞれかなり異なる特徴をもつものであることもあわせて明らかにした。

Song Neo-Confucianism held that the descent-line system of antiquity as recorded in the Classics should be restored. Based on an understanding of the descent-line system as an ideology for lineage solidarity, past scholarship has explained Song Neo-Confucianism as an effort to enhance lineage cohesiveness. However, Based on an analysis of the ancient meaning of the descent-line system and Zhang Zai and Cheng Yi's discussions of the descent-line system, this essay demonstorates the following. First, the ancient meaning of the descent-line system referred not to lineage solidarity but focused instead on vertical relations. Second, the fundamental principle of the descent-line system, primogeniture, was at variance with a pragmatic conception of lineage and thus was difficult to implement, and was not conductive to the broad solidarity needed for lineage. Third, even though the descent-line system possessed the characteristics mentioned above, Zhang and Cheng's motivation for espousing the descent-line system should be understood in an intellectual context of a desire to return to antiquity rather than in a social context of a hope for lineage cohesion during a time of heightened social mobility, the view that has here to for dominated scholarship. Further, this essay demonstorates that while Zhang and Cheng's view of the descent-line system have been seen an nearly identical, in fact, they differed in many respects.
