| 抄録: | 最近, 従来とは異なる光の形態が注目されている.本稿では, 以下の3 つの話題を取り上げて紹介したい. (1)光速を越える群速度と負群速度, (2)電磁誘導透過(EIT) による低群速度と, ダーク状態ポラリトンによる光パルスの停止, (3)メタ物質による負屈折率の実現. いずれも従来の光に対する常識を覆す現象であり, その物理的な仕組みや意味に興味が持たれている. 一方, 量子制御などの新しいタイプの光技術への応用の可能性についても, さまざまな試みがなされている. Recently, various unconventional forms of light are attracting attention. Among them are (1) light propagating with superluminal and negative group velocities, (2) slow light in a medium with an electromagnetically induced transparency and stopped light with dark－state polaritons, and (3) light in metamaterials of negative refractive index. We review the physical implications of these novel phenomena. Possible applications of these phenomena to quantum information processing and other areas are also presented. |
