<論説>チャムパの名に探る : インド早期移民の故郷

Abstract

インドシナにおけるインドの一植民地であったチャムパに、初期に移住したインド人が、インドのどの地方から来たものであったか。チャムパの名そのものから、それを探ってみたいというのが、この小篇の目的である。そのため考えられることは、移住民は、たださえ故郷を忘じがたい上に、その移住先に、これを偲ばしめるものがあるばあい、故郷名を附けがちであると思われる限り、この点から、解決の鍵が見出されないであろうか。

The author of the present study aims, by examining the name of Champa, at revealing that since it had the city and kingdom of the said name on the Ganges North India is, in all probability, the mother-land of the early Indian immigrants in Champa, . According to his researches, it seems to the author that the colonists who came from North India to Champa, finding there several topographical similarities, and so perhaps longing for their home now and then, may have given the native appellation to their new colony, as was often the case in other places. This result will not conflict with the conclusion obtained by the same author from another study entitled "An Historical Problem of the Indian Culture in Indo-China" from the viewpoint of the calendar system of Champa in comparion with those of North and South India.
