<研究論文>ミネルヴァ大学の正課教育における汎用的能力の育成 --ミネルヴァ大学生へのインタビュー調査を通して--

Abstract

ミネルヴァ大学では、汎用的能力をHCs（Habits of mind and Foundational concepts）に具体化し、HCsを軸とした正課教育カリキュラムを体系的に設計することで、実社会や実生活に転移可能な形で汎用的能力を育成することを目指している。本研究では、在学生5名を対象とした半構造化インタビュー調査を実施することで、学生はHCsをどのように活用しながら自分のものとしていくのかを検討した。その結果、学生は授業内外でHCsを意識的に活用し、HCsの有効性を実感することで、HCsが学生どうしの共通言語となるプロセスを示した。一方、HCsのなかには、一般的で適用可能な文脈や状況が限定的なHCや、異なる学問分野間で適用するのが難しいHCなどもみられた。このように、ミネルヴァのアプローチは、学生が具体的かつ幅広く活用可能な粒度で汎用的能力を教授・学習できるようにした一方、HCsのなかには適用可能な範囲が限定的なものもあるという特徴が明らかになった。

At Minerva University, generic competencies called core competencies are broken down into HCs (Habits of mind and Foundational Concepts) and the regular curriculum is systematically designed based on HCs, which aim to develop generic competencies in a way that is transferable to the real world and real life. In this paper, we conducted a semi-structured interview survey with five students at Minerva University to examine how students apply and transfer HCs, and they appropriate HCs. The result shows that students consciously apply HCs inside and outside of class, and by realizing their effectiveness, HCs have become a common language within the Minerva community. On the other hand, some of HCs were found to be more general and limited in terms of applicable contexts and situations, and some of HCs were difficult to apply across different disciplines, indicating that not all HCs are necessarily highly generic. Thus, while Minerva University’s approach to developing generic competencies is highly effective in that it allows students to learn generic competencies with a concrete and broadly applicable granularity, there are a few challenges with regard to some HCs having a limited range of applicability.
