We studied the relationship between the results of the Uchida-Kraepelin Psychodiagnostic Test (UK) and school records of nursing students admitted to our college from 1987 to 1989. Of 240 students, 213 were examined. We obtained the following results: 1. Ninety-two percent of the students scored within the 'wholesome' category on UK, these are considered the group who will work efficiently and show great adaptability to circumstances. 2. Only 7 of 213 students remained in the same grade or left college before graduation, and hence their traits of 'temperament and behaviour' were hard to confirm statistically. 3. Since the 'general evaluation' of UK is significantly related to school records in the professional lectures and second-year clinical practice, UK will be a useful reference in predicting the ability of students in a certain circumstances. 4. Since a significant relationship between UK and school records in third-year clinical practice was not confirmed, UK may not be a useful reference in predicting the all-round practical ability of students. Further studies are necessary to confirm the validity of UK related to nursing education. An adequate evaluation system for students' clinical practice must also be discussed.en
