抄録: The aim of this study is to investigate how to optimize information literacy education for the first year course of the Faculty of Education, Kyoto University. Fifty-six undergraduate students participated in an introductory one-year seminar course of Information Science. They came to the seminar room once a week and were given some information about computers and their usage as well as a session for practice. At the beginning of the seminar and three months later, they were asked to answer nearly the same questionnaire to assess the changes in their basic knowledge and skill of computer use, attitudes toward learning computer literacy, and so on. They had not learned much before they entered the university. They acquired some necessary knowledge and skill in using computers through the three months' experience with computers. However, one of the most important things is to give them information beyond what even mobile phones can do today (electronic mail and access to the internet), namely, how to use computers as thinking tool.
