Abstract

The tidal residual circulation in a bay was experimentally investigated with use of a sim-plified hydraulic model. The change of strength and pattern of the tidal residual circulationwas investigated with respect to some variable parameters, the period and amplitude of the tide, the width and shape of the mouth and the depth of the bay.As a result, the following were revealed. The strength of the tidal residual circulationdepends upon the vertical Reynolds number. Owing to the construction of the training wallat the mouth, the strong tidal residnal circulation does not occur in the bay.
