Abstract

It has been emphasized to construct the general constitutive equations for soil materials inorder to analyze three-dimensional boundary value problems. So far, however, most workson the constitutive equations for clays are mainly focused on normally consolidated clays, butonly few can been found for over-consolidated state. In this study, we derived the constitutiveequations for over-consolidated clays by extending Roscoe's original critical state energy theoryto be able to explaine more generally such mechamical properties of over-consolidated clays asstrain-hardening and strain-softening deformation processes.
