Abstract: The intermittent features of the turbulent velocity field in the atmospheric surface layer wereinvestigated by the conditional sampling technique. Quadrant representation of momentum fluxindicates that the sweep is responsible for 79% of mean momentum flux and the ejection is for 71%.In the atmospheric surface layer, the sweep does not necessarily appear after the ejection. It issurmised that the mechanism of gust front is not exactly same as that of the burst in the turbulentboundary layer of the wind tunnel or water channel experiment.
