Abstract: The upper and lower tropospheric wind fields during the formation of Typhoon 8013(ORCHID) are analyzed. The GMS satellite wind data and sonde wind data are used tomake the interpolated wind vectors at the grid points. To analyze the lower-wind fields, MASCON model is used to adjust the interpolated wind fields.The lower-level cross-equatorial southern flows seems to be important for the formationof the typhoon.
