防災問題における資料解析研究(26)

Abstract

防災研究所は, 防災研究におけるわが国の中核的研究施設(Center of Excellence, 略称COE)として, 共同研究を推進してきている。巨大災害研究センターはその中において, 自然科学と社会科学の研究を融合させる機能を有した世界で最初の研究センターとして, 津波防災をはじめ, いくつかの研究課題に対して, いわゆる『メッカ』となるべく, 努力を継続してきた。その一環として, 米国シアトルに当センターの分室(シアトル・アネックス)を1999年4月1日から発足させるべく, 努力してきた。本年はそのことを最初に紹介し, つぎに継続してきた事業を紹介することにしたい。

The objectives of this paper are to show the activities of the Research Center for Disaster Reduction Systems in 1998. They include some approaches to contribute to disaster loss reduction. Memorial Conference in Kobe has been held to exchange and have disaster lessons in the Hanshin-Awaji earthquake disaster. Establishment of Seattle Annex will contribute to the earthquake and tsunami loss reduction in the U.S. as well as in Japan.Research Association for Toukai, Tou-Nankai and Nankai Earthquake Tsunami focus on some problems in accompany with next these earthquake tsunami disasters. Seminar for disaster loss reduction due to climate hazards is opened to train local government officers in the disaster prevention section. Other activities such as committee members of disaster planning and disaster loss estimation in central and local government level and promotion of some symposiums and forums will also contribute to improve our research accountability.
