Abstract

It has been known that Tangut phoneticians established their own phonology which had its origin in the traditional Chinese phonology and edited various phonetic dictionaries. The analysis of the dictionaries is one of the significant subjects for Tangut phonologists of today. The main purposes of this dictionary are to categorize every Tangut syllable and to order Tangut characters which have the same pronunciation. I have researched Tangut syllables and characters by their fan qie (反切) which was described in Tangut original materials. The materials of this dictionary are Tangut phonetic dictionaries in about the 12th century, Tung yin (同音), Wen hai (文海), Wen hai za lei (文海雑類), and so on. This dictionary consists of the following sections : rhymes of Wen hai part (Rhyme 1-105), rhymes of Wen hai za lei part (level tones and rising tones), special characters for Sanskrit transcription, and the phonemic coocurrence tables of Tangut initials and rhymes.
