Abstract

1) Serum electrolytes level of the normal rats was as follows: Na 140±3 mEq/l K 6.1±O.9 mEq/l Ca 4.7±0.5 mEq/l Cl 101±3 mEq/l P 3.9±0.3 mEq/l HCO3 24±4 mEq/l 2) After unilateral nephrectomy, Na, C1 and HCO3 showed a transient decrease on the first operative day, and the animals showed hyponatremia, hypochloremia and metabolic acidosis. On the third day, they returned to the normal levels followed by further fluctuation always within the range observed on the first day. During one to five days after operation, K and P were high, thus showing hyperpotassemia and hyperphosphatemia, but both then returned to the normal levels and became stable. Calcium level remain unchanged.
