抄録: | The foundation of the Hsi-hsia (西夏) State by Li Chi-ch'ien'(李継遷) at the beginning of the Sung Dynasty caused a tense situation in the northwestern frontier of China. Sung took such policies against this phase as (1) prohibition of women-trade, (2) that of international marriage. The Chinese-foreigners compound aera had been formed in this region as the result of the movement eastward of the Tangut since the middle of the T'ang Dynasty. The former prohibition was issued by the Sung government under these conditions. But many poverty stricken Chinese were sold to the Tangut in spite of the government prohibition. Since the Tangut became more active, Sung took the second policy to protect the Chinese from the Tangut and to settle the compound society. |
