<特集論文>「呪術的実践 = 知の歴史的諸相」 --西欧近世の魔女信仰の視角から

Abstract

呪術/魔術が西欧社会で問題化したのは魔女裁判が猖獗を極めた16・17世紀の近世のことである。本稿では、当時の魔女信仰の分析から「呪術的実践 = 知の歴史的諸相」について考察する。ただし、本稿で行われるのは「呪術的実践 = 知の歴史的諸相」の本格的な解明に必要な準備作業であり、「実践 = 知」のうち「実践」に焦点を絞って検討をすすめる。拙稿「呪術と現実・真実・想像 --西欧近世の魔女言説から」(白川・川田編『呪術の人類学』人文書院、2012年所収)で論じた「呪術のリアリティ」に関する問題、『魔女狩り --西欧の三つの近代化』(講談社選書メチエ、2014年)で扱った「視覚の特権化」「自然認識の変容」「他者排除」に関わる三つの西欧の近代化の問題をもとにしてアプローチを試みる。そしてカルロ・ギンズブルグのベナンダンティに関する研究にもとづいて、「呪術的実践」に関わる四つの知覚作用に関わる動詞「信じる・知る・行う・感じる」の問題について若干考察する。

In early modern Western Europe, witch-hunts raged, and magic/witchcraft became an issue. The purpose of this paper is to consider the historical phase of magical practice-knowledge, based on an analysis of the witch-belief. However, here I make the preparatory research and deal with its practice. I approach the historical phase of magical practice taking account of the problem of the reality of magic, the privilegization of the sense of sight, the change of the view of nature, and the exclusion of the other, which have been dealt with in my article and book ("magic and reality/truth/imagination", 2012; Witch-hunts: Three Modernizations of Western Europe, 2014). Then, I briefly examine the problem of four sensory verbs, belief/know/do/feel, which are related to "the magical practice", referring to Carlo Ginzburg's Benandanti.
