宗教的愛が媒介する教育関係 --西谷啓治哲学の教育思想としての可能性--

Abstract

本論では、講演「教育と宗教」を手がかりに西谷哲学の教育思想としての可能性を考察した。教育を論じた際の西谷の問題意識は実存的危機としてのニヒリズムの克服にあった。西谷は、この問題の原因と解決をともに宗教に求めた。宗教の破綻によって到来したニヒリズムの克服は、人間と神との関係の深い回復に求めなければならないのである。このような一層深い宗教性は人間と神の関係に否定を媒介させることである。講演「教育と宗教」では、西谷は西田哲学の用語に依拠し、個人と世界の根底である神の関係を矛盾的自己同一の論理で説明した。そして、西谷は主著『宗教とは何か』において同じ論理に基づいて、ニヒリズムを克服するために「空の立場」を提示した。最後に、『宗教とは何か』における一層円熟した哲学を参照し、西田の論文「教育学について」との比較のうえで西谷が構想した教育愛を検討し、実存的＝宗教的側面の強調が西谷の特徴であることを結論づけた。

This paper aims at clarifying the potential of Nishitani Keiji's philosophy as educational thought. It opens with an examination of Nishitani's speech “Education and Religion”, where he considered the problem of education as the loss of humanity, understood as the existential crisis of nihilism. According to Nishitani, such crises result from the dismissal of traditional religion by science, and can only be overcome by restoring religiosity in a new sense. That is, to mediate individual human and God with negation. Nishitani referred to Nishida Kitaro's philosophical terms to explain such religiosity, especially the logic of “self-identity of absolute contradiction.” This is the core logic that underpins the relation between an individual person and the world (or God), as well as the relations between individuals. Nishitani also succeeded and developed Nishida's logic into his own philosophy, the standpoint of Sunyata, in his major work Religion and Nothingness. By referring to this standpoint and focusing on his examination of religious love (Agape), we can clarify the educational love Nishitani promoted in his writings about education. Through this inquiry, this piece allows us to position Nishitani Keiji in the genre of the Kyoto School's philosophy of education.
