抄録: The physiological functions of the se m inal vesicles which had been generally recognized hitherto by many invnstigators were as follows : 1) Reflex to the occurrence of the sexual impulse which occurrs by filling the lumen of the seminal vesicles. 2) As a reservoir of the sper m atozoen. 3) Secretion of the sperm. 4) Endocrine ability. 5) Absorption a bility. In order to inv e stigate the relation between the absorption ability among these previously described functions and the sexual hormones, at first an attempt was made to examine the absorption ability of the seminal vesicles in a physiological situation, and the following experiment was per formed. Four k inds of antibiotics (penicillin, streptomycin, tetracycline and chloramphenicol), which are used clinically as a powerful therapeutic dru gs and have a different antibacterial spectrum, were injected into the seminal vesicles through vas deferens, and the state of their absorption after injection were examined by determining the blood level by means of one dementional diffusion method and the results were as follows : 1) The blood level of penicillin reached to maximum in 3 0 minutes after injection and then started decreasing gradually, and were hardly traceable in 5 hours. 2) Concernin g streptomycin, the blood level reached maximum also in 30 minutes after injection just as penicillin did, and then gradually dropped according to the time elapsed. 3) Absorption of te t racycline was just the same as penicillin and strep tomycin. 4) The absorption of chloramphenicol was a little different than the previously described three antibiotics. The blood level reached to maximum in 30 minutes after injection, then maintained the same blood level for a fairly long time, and began to drop from 8 to 12 hours after injection. 5) The blood level examined for the purpose of studying t he absorption ability of the seminal vesicles to each antibiotics was lower than that when the same dosage was injected intramusculary as a control, but it was made clear that these antibiotics were absorbed actively through the seminal vesicles. 6) Th e selective absorption ability to any of the four antibiotics could not been recognized.
