Abstract

Glucuronic acid in serum and the 24 hours' urine c ollections have been determined by the analytical method of Fishman which was described in 1955. Significant variation of the total glucuronic acid value i n serum and 24 hours' urine collections as well as of the conjugated glucuronic acid value in 24 hours' collections have not been obtained between healthy subjects and the patients of urinary calculi. The total and conjugated glucuronic acid value in 24 hours' urine colle c tions determined before the extirpations of urinary calculi was similar with that after surgery. The total and conjugated glucuronic acid value in 24 hours' urine c ollections has been determined after some drugs, namely glucuronolactone daily 5 g, chondroitinsulphate daily 1.5g, Rowatin daily 6 drops or salicylamide daily 3g was ingested. The highest value of conjugated glucuronic acid was o btained after salicylamide was ingested, while the highest value of free glucuronic acid (which is obtainable by subtracting the conjugated glucuronic acid value from the total glucuronic acid value)was demonstracted after when glucuronolactone was administered.
