Abstract

The literatures on the etiology of so-called essent i a l hematuria were reviewed, and it was concluded that the etiological factor in this disease is not specific but many causes have relationship with it. Etiological classification was presented as follows. 1) Inflammatory lesions. a) Non-specific localized changes in the renal parenchyma. b) Chronic inflammatory changes in the renal pelvis and papillae. c) Early tuberculous changes. d) Allergic changes. 2) Vascular lesions. a) Renal h emangioma, varix and teleangiectasis. b) Renal aneurysma. c) Periarte r itis nodosa. d) Renal infarctio n. e) Other p athological changes of vascular wall. 3) Disturbances of renal circulation. a) Caused by functional changes. b) Caused by organic cha nges. i) Intrarenal nature. ii) Extrarenal n ature. 4) Other minute lesions. a) Minute calcu li or calcium plaque in the renal papillae. b) Minute renal or pelvic tumor. c) Renal purpura or hemo r rhgic changes in the renal pelvis. d) Leukoplakia in the renal pelvis.
