One of the most important compli c ations in the paraplegic patients is the persistent urinary tract infection. It is a type of nonspecific infection complicated with the urinary obstruction, and is very difficult to control even by the ample use of various chemotherapeutics. In this paper the results of the clinical and bacteriological investigations on the microorganisms in urine and the effects of sulfamethizol are reported. (1) In the case of renal insufficiency the high bloo d level of sulfamethizol is resulted from the delayed renal excretion. (2) The microorgan i s ms in the urine of 22 paraplegic patients are identified as Escherichia, Citrobacter, Klebsiella, Proteus, Providencia, Pseudomonas and Staphylococcus albus et aureus. (3) T h eir drug sensitivity tests by the disc method are carried out and only one is sensitive to sulfamethizol. (4) Abou t half of 11 cases infected by the sulfamethizol resistant organisms show the apparent clinical improvement by sulfamethizol administration. So it will be said that the administration of sulfamethizol to the urinary tract infection of the sulfamethizol resistant organisms cannot always be insignificant, clinically. (5) The sensitivities to many drugs exce p t sulfamethizol of microorganisms in the urine of the paraplegic patients show the unnegligible increase and/or decrease after the administration of sulfamethizol. It will be necessary to investigate such facts further.en
