尿路感染症に対するMethofadinの応用

Abstract

Upon single oral administration of lgm. of M e thofadin (=Sulfamethomidine) to healthy human subjects, the blood level of Methofadin reached its peak (10.1mg./d1 as free form) in 4 hours, and was found to be 6.2mg./dl (free form) after 24 hours. This result indicates clearly that the absorption of Methofadin is satisfactory and the effective blood level is maintained for a long duration. Methofadin, initially 2gm. subsequently lgm. at 24 hour intervals in an average total dose of 6.3gm., was given orally for an average of 4 days to 3 cases of acute urethritis, 11 cases of acute cystitis, and 1 case of acute pyelitis. Of these 15 cases of the urinary infections, 40% obtained marked improvement, 46.6% satisfactory improvement and 13.3% fair :mprovement without unsuccessful case. In this clinical trial no side effect of the drug was seen at all. It se e m s reasonable to conclude from whole results that Methofadin provides several outstanding properties as, for example, rapid absorption, prolongation of effective blood concentration, minimal incidence of acetylated form in blood and urine etc.
