Abstract

Nonspecific infection of the urinary tract is a member of the group of e n dogenous infections. In endogenous infective diseases, the "causes" other than the activity of microbic agents are as indispensable as are the agents themselves. In consequence, it is reasonable to treat the nonspecific infection of the urinary tract by a combined administration of the sensitive antibiotics and the agents which have some effects on the ''causes" Bacteriologic cure rates of the combined administration of the s ensitive antibiotics and the agents of anti-inflammatory and anti-edema actions to the chronic nonspecific infections of the urinary tract of the traumatic paraplegics are superior to those of the administration of the sensitive antibiotics alone. Saito et al. 1963 su g gested from their animal experiments that the correction of the induced abnormal tissue metabolism of the dog bladder by cord injury is possibly achieved by the administration of thiamin tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide, bethanechol chloride and pantothenyl alcohol, and it was beneficial to control the nonspecific infection of the urinary tract in cord injury. Standing on their theory, the effect of a-tocopherol to the chronic infections of the urinary tract of traumatic paraplegics were examined. Administration of a-tocopherol alone had good effects on chronic urinary tract infections and the results of bacteriologic cure rate of the combined administration of sensitive antibiotics and a-tocopherol were excellent.
