前立腺腫瘍の体質学的研究 I: 体格の計測値に就いて

Abstract

It has been well known that type of body shape is closely related to prevalence of disease since Kretschmer's study and many other succeeded investigations. Less occurrence of prostatic hypertrophy is noticed among people of asthenic type. In particularlly, Blatt's theory concerning constitutional characteristics of patient with prostatic hypertrophy has been known since years ago. According him, the disease occurs frequently in persons who have moderately well developed, solid and obese type of body with large head, flushing face, short and thick neck, broad chest, dark pigmented nipple, slack abdomen, fine and moist skin with scanty hair growth and wide female like pelvis. Comparative studies on the constitutional charac t eristics were made among the patients who visited at the Department of Urology of Hiroshima University Hospital. They consist of 40 cases of control (mean age of 69.7 years), 50 cases of prostatic hypertrophy (mean age of 67.8 years) and 30 cases of prostatic cancer (mean age of 65.6 years). Measurements were performed for body weight, sitting height, scapular distance, pelvic distance, chest circumference, minimum circumference of the left forearm, maximum circumference of the right upper arm at inflected position, circumference of the waist, circumference of the hips, length of lower extremities and length of penis and the data were analysed statistically among three groups to find out the characteristics of patients. In the group of prosatic hypertrophy, it was found that the patients have obese and heavy weight, wide body, short lower extremities, long penis, prominent buttocks, long chest circumference and trend of large abdomen. Development of muscles is found to be rather poor. In the group of prostatic cancer, many patients had moderately narrow or slender body and no one was obese. In addition they showed broad shoulders, long lower extremities and long penis even it was shorter than that of in the group of prostatic hypertrophy.
