Abstract

Intramuscular injections of colistin-methanesulfonate s o dium at the doses of 66.8m g and 133.6m g producede ffective serum concentrationsf or at least 6-12 hours (Fig. 1). In the patients with renal disturbance, the blood levels were markedly h i g her and the urine levels were lower than normal (Fig. 1-3). In vitro sensitivities of bacteria from g e n itourinayi nfections to R antibiotics were tested, and Kanamycin and Colimycin were proven' to be the most useful (Fig. 4, Table 1). Synergism between Colimycin and sulfonamide drug against Proteus in v itro was established (Table 4). A significantc l i n ical response on the treatment with C olimycin (methanesulfonate1 00m g daily intramuscular injection) was observed in 37 cases of genitourinary infections (Table 3, 5-9). Side effects were negligible in this trial.
