Abstract

A study was made to evaluate the clinical effect o f a new water-soluble thiamine derivative, Thiamine disulfide-0, 0'-bis-monophosphate (=VMT-908), in 33 cases of urological diseases. Th e method of administration, dosage and results are summarized as follows. 1. Fifty mg of VMT-908 was given intravenously or intrasacrally daily or 2 to 3 times a week. The compound was injected intravenously by drip to postoperative patients. 2. VMT-908 was relatively effective for the treatment of pollakiuria or enuresis both caused by nycturia and cystalgia. 3. Recovery from post operative paralysis of intestinal tract and bladder was markedly promoted physilogically after administration of VMT-908. 4. VMT-908 was also effective for the supp lement of thiamine to the patients whose thiamine consumption in the body was adnormally accelerated. 5. VMT-908 exerted a remarkable effect on fatig ue which is one of the general symptoms. It was also effective as a symptomatic therapy for the patients who complained of anorexia, lumbago, etc. 6. A few cases ( 2 or 3 patients) complained of temporal sensation of bitter taste and itching of periproct after intravenous injection. However, there were no noticeable or serious side-effects at all.
