Abstract

1. Increased fibrinolytic activity was frequently demon s trated in patients with prostatic hypertrophy and prostatic cancer. 2. In patients with hy p ertrophy and cancer of the prostatic gland, no correlation was found between fibrinolytic activity and blood clotting factors, liver functions and results of various biochemical examinations of serum in most of cases, but significant correlations were seen between these values in the cases where fibrinogen, NPN and bleeding time determinations were abnormal. 3. Hexestrol, EACA o r t-AMCHA was administered before and after prostatectomy in order to compare changes of fibrinolytic activity, amount of bleeding during the operation and duration of postoperative hematuria. The group given HeAestrol showed a slight suppression of fibrinolytic activity and a decrease in amount of bleeding during the operation comparing to the control group. The group given EACA showed a suppression of fibrinolytic activity, which was also demonstrated more strongly in the group given t-AMCHA. In both groups EACA and t-AMCHA, amount of bleeding during the operation of postoperative hematuria were decreased, althongh no significant difference on the effects was seen between the both groups. 4. No correlation was r e cognized between the weight of the extirpated prostatic gland and plasma fibrinolytic activity or tissue activator. 5. Administration of SK after prostatec t o my resulted an increase in fibrinolytic activity without noticeable bleeding tendency. 6. Anti-male hormone t herapy was given to patients with cancer of the prostatic gland with subsequent suppression of plasma fibrinolytic activity.
