Abstract

Seldinger's method of percutaneous retrograde femoral arterial catheterization has made a significant advance on the catheter method of arteriography. It is our purpose to describe the technique a n d its complications of percutaneous retrograde aortic catheterization for renal angiography performed during the past eight months. This technique has been used in more than 78 examinations. The diagnostic quality of the angiogram is c l early enhanced by the use of 80% AngioConray. A dose of 20 cc was used at each injection, aiming at an over-all injection time of two to three seconds. An oxygen powered cardiovascular pressure injector was used with the 2.50 mm. (green) Kifa catheter. A survey of 78 percutaneous retrograde arteriograms revealed an over-all incidence rate of minor complications of 7.7 per cent without any serious ones.
