Abstract

Determination of occult blood of urine by means of "Hemasticks" and microscopic examination of urinary sediment were simultaneously performed in 302 patients with urological diseases and 50 patients without any urological abnormalities, totally 352 cases. The results confirmed that negative reaction of "Hemasticks" indicates none or very few red cells in urine, while positive of "Hemasticks" indicate the 3-10 red cells in one high power field being as one plus positive, 11-30 red cells as two plus positive and 31 or over red cells as three plus positive. It was concluded that determination of occult blood of urine with "Hemasticks" is not only able to detet presence of urinary red cells but is also able to examine grade of hematuria semiquantitatively. It will be worthwhile to use "Hemasticks" at mass-examinations when a large number of samples have to be examined or at central laboratories where daily works are light with many kinds of examinations.
