In the preceding part of this article, it was described that effect of Dithizone on epithelial cells of the prostatic gland is closely related to presence of zinc in the gland. Furtheromore, change of DNA synthesis observed in the epithelial cells suggested that Dithizone affects on composition, synthesis and metabolism of nucleic acid through zinc which may result in histological changes. Since many reports have been appeared concerning relationship between zinc content of the prostatic gland and hormones, studies carried out to observe the effects of Dithizone on the prostatic gland of rats treated with male or female sexual hormones. The results summarized as follows. 1) In the lateral and dorsolateral lobes of the median l o be of the prostatic gland, 3H-thymidine incorporation in acinus wall was not noticeablly different from the controls even after administration of either Enarmone water suspension at the dose of 0.5mg/kg/ day for 3 weeks or Ovahormone benzoate water suspension, 0.02mg/mg/day for 3 weeks. 2) Although weight of the prostatic gland increased after administration o f male sexual hormone and decreased after female hormone compare to the controls, no consistent tendency in weight of the prostatic gland was recognized following administration of Dithizone to the hormone-treated rats. 3) Histological change after adm i n istration of Dithizone revealed that exfoliation and destruction of prostatic epithelial cells take place earlier than control and extend widely in the whole median lobe, lateral, dorsolateral and dorsal lobes, in the male sexual hormone-treated group. However, these histological changes limited to only small part of the glandular epithelial cells and occurred slower than controls in the female sexual hormone-treated group. 4) Incorporatio n of 3H-thymidine in acinus wall of the prostatic gland after administration of Dithizone showed almost absent during the period coincide with destruction of the epithelial cells and marked increase during the stage of regeneration in the male sexual hormone-treated group. However in the female sexual hormone-treated group, Dithizone administration did not alter the mode of incorporation at any period of observation.en
